Immediate Function with All-on-4 Treatment Concept

All On 4 Dental Implant Treatment Diagram for San Antonio dentist at Excellent Dental Specialists.According to the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP), more than 36 million Americans do not have any teeth. Luckily, there are more tooth replacement options than ever before. At Excellent Dental Specialists, we are big believers in the All-on-4 treatment concept. All-on-4 has revolutionized the way we restore a full arch of missing teeth using, as the name suggests, four dental implants to support the entire prosthesis.

What Is the All-on-4 Treatment Concept?

A dental implant is a titanium post that serves as the root component of a prosthesis, whether that be a single crown, partial bridge, or full-arch restoration. Most full-arch restorations require a minimum of six to eight implants.

The All-on-4 treatment concept provides a permanent, same-day replacement for the lower or upper set of teeth using only four implant posts. This treatment concept takes advantage of the dense bone that exists in the front portion of the jaw. During the procedure, Dr. Andrew Weber and Dr. Kent Hamilton will make four incisions to expose the underlying jawbone. Then, we will drill tiny holes into the bone so we can deeply embed each implant. We orient the front two implants in the conventional manner, which is vertical. The back two implants are typically placed at approximately a 30 to 45-degree angle from the biting plane. The angled implants are what separate the All-on-4 concept from other alternatives.

Once the implants are in place, we will immediately load a temporary prosthesis. Immediate function is a huge advantage of the All-on-4 treatment concept. This allows patients to experience a dramatic improvement in their teeth almost instantly. You will leave our office with a new, beautiful, and functional smile the same day as your surgery.

The healing period can take anywhere from four to twelve months to complete. During this time, the implants and your jawbone will fuse through the process of osseointegration. Once osseointegration is complete, many patients choose or need to have a new restoration fabricated for their implants.

Other Benefits of All-on-4

Other benefits of All-on-4 include:
•  Realistic esthetics. Your restoration will be fabricated using the finest materials available, such as porcelain or zirconia. These ceramic compounds possess the same light reflective properties as tooth enamel, making them virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.
•  Unrestricted diet. Your final restoration allows you to eat what you want when you want. Even sticky and hard foods will not pose a problem.
•  Better quality of life. Your restoration will restore your ability to properly chew, speak, and smile again. You will also experience greater confidence and comfort compared to other restorations. You implant-supported restoration can also be cleaned and maintained just like your natural teeth.
•  Better longevity and durability. Dental implants have a 98% success rate largely thanks to the process of osseointegration. Most implant-supported restorations will last for several decades. Some patients even experience a lifetime of results without the need for replacement.
•  Better oral health. Unlike traditional dentures, implants prevent further bone deterioration. When you lose your teeth, you lose the physical stimulation you need to maintain healthy bone. Each implant will provide the necessary stimulation your bone needs to avoid atrophy.
