What are Dental Veneers?

Minor imperfections can have a major impact on the appearance of your teeth and the quality of your smile. Dental veneers are a treatment designed to restore the appearance of teeth affected by minor flaws, restoring, or enhancing, the beauty of your smile as well as boosting your confidence. Veneers are thin shells that are designed to be bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth, effectively covering over the imperfections in your teeth and completely transforming your smile.
Dental veneers can be used to correct some different issues that affect the appearance of your teeth. These flaws include:

Small chips or cracks in the enamel of your teeth.
Gaps between teeth.
Minor overlapping of your teeth.
Teeth that are smaller than the rest or that are misshapen.
Discolored teeth.

What are Veneers Made From?

Veneers are typically made from one of two materials, composite resin or porcelain. While both materials can be made to match the color of your natural teeth, porcelain does offer some significant benefits. First, composite is much more natural in appearance. Not only does it match the color of real teeth, but it also reflects light similarly as well. Porcelain is also stronger than composite resin, meaning that it can stand up to more use. As a result, their lifespan is typically longer. Where composite resin veneers only last 7 to 10 years, porcelain can last up to 15 years or more.

Getting Your Veneers

Getting dental veneers typically requires two separate appointments. Your first appointment is reserved for preparing your teeth and taking impressions. The second appointment is for fitting and placing them. First, the teeth that are going to receive dental veneers must first be prepared. This process involves removing a small portion of the enamel from the front surfaces of each tooth. Removing enamel helps to ensure that your veneers fit naturally in with the rest of your smile. After the teeth have been prepared, impressions are taken, which are then sent to our dental lab.
At the lab, your impressions are used to custom create your veneers. They are made to the exact specifications of your mouth, down to perfectly match the exact shade of your teeth. Once they are ready, we check them for fit and to make sure your bite is natural. If we do not need to make any adjustments, then they are bonded into place on your teeth with special dental cement.
