Infection Signs to Watch Out for Following Gum Disease Treatment

Infection Signs to Watch Out for Following Gum Disease TreatmentIf you have made the decision to have your gum disease treated, you are on the right path to a healthier life. However, you should be aware that there is some risk of infection with gum treatment. Here are some signs and symptoms you should watch out for in the days after your gum disease treatment sessions.

Gum Tissue That is Warm or Hot to the Touch

An elevated temperature can be a sign of infection. If you notice that the tissue in your mouth is warmer than usual, it could be a sign that the body is fighting an infection. Likewise, if you develop a fever, it could have its roots in the gum disease treatment procedure. In either event, you should let us know right away.

Oozing or Discharge of Pus or Other Fluids
Some discharge of fluids from your gum tissue is a normal response to the treatment process. Slight bleeding or even oozing of plasma (in small amounts) is usually not a cause for concern and should decrease relatively quickly.

However, if you have yellow or green discharge from your gum tissue, that is a sign of an infection and you should make sure to contact us as soon as possible. Likewise, if your gum tissue continues to bleed or have any sort of discharge that does not diminish after a day or so, you could be dealing with an infection.

Throbbing or Pulsating Sensation
While it is normal to have some soreness, if you feel that your gums are throbbing or pulsing, it may be a sign of an infection. If this condition persists, you should seek attention right away.

Having your gums treated for gum disease is a necessary step down the road towards good health. By keeping an eye out for infection, you can help ensure a speedy and full recovery.
