John Kum, DDS, MS
Periodontist
Dr. John Kum is a patient-centric Periodontist who values team collaboration for interdisciplinary care. He graduated magna cum laude with his Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry from Creighton University, and graduated cum laude from Creighton University School of Dentistry. Among his honors was being elected into Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Dental Society. He attended Temple University Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he received his Master’s of Science in Oral Biology as well as a Certificate of Clinical Periodontics and Oral Implantology.
Throughout his training he provided care at many Mission of Mercy programs and through a dental mission trip to the Dominican Republic. Through his Periodontal residence he worked in a multi-disciplinary dental practice.
Dr. Kum is a multi-talented clinician with many competencies and skills including:
- Placement of hundreds of dental implants including immediate implant placement with immediate temporization and full-arch (all-on-four/hybrid) reconstruction.
- Osseous ridge augmentation, guided bone regeneration, sinus augmentation, block grafts, and ridge splits.
- Pre-prosthetic surgery including esthetic and functional crown lengthening, tori removal and alveoloplasty
- Orthodontic exposure
- Oral/ minimal/ IV moderate sedation trained and approved for high risk sedation in Texas
- Laser trained
- Pinhole surgical technique certified
- American Academy of Periodontology Board Eligible—in process to achieve Diplomate status
Family-oriented
Dr. Kum’s twin brother is also a Periodontist, and their uncle is a general dentist. Dr. Kum loves to travel, cook, and eat, and is very family oriented. We are exceptionally proud to have Dr. Kum on our team and we’re excited about the high quality of care he can provide our patients. He will be practicing at our New Braunfels and Babcock locations.
