Gum Disease Excellent Dental Specialists TX 78232-4354Treating gum disease early on is the key to preventing more serious health problems in the future. The reversible part of gum disease is called Gingivitis, catching it early and treating the signs, stops the progression before it hits your bones that border your teeth.

Here are the signs and symptoms of gingivitis that can be reversed and that you would want to look for.

Reversible Signs and Symptoms of Gingivitis

Here are some common signs that gingivitis is already present in your mouth.

•  Really swollen gums that appear red. Pink gums are healthy.
•  If your gums bleed while you brush or floss.
•  Bad taste in mouth or really bad breath.
•  A lot of tartar on your teeth.
•  Sensitivity to hot or cold substances.

If you smoke and you're showing signs of gingivitis, it may be a good idea to quit. Smoking increases the chance to develop gum infections, and smoking decreases the chances of healing quicker.

How You, Yourself Can Reverse Gingivitis

Practicing great oral hygiene can and will reverse the gum disease and stop it from coming back. Brushing your teeth thoroughly twice a day with a soft-bristle toothbrush's and flossing at least once a day is the key to remove the plaque off of your teeth.

If you have an old toothbrush, it is a good idea to get it replaced. When the bristles start to get old and wear down, they don't clean as thoroughly as new ones do.
